Customer is a B2B solutions provider involved in providing information of different vendors' products with the client profile, product specifications and location preferences etc. per customer needs. The company also provides a profile of prospective customers for different lines of products and vendors.
Objective
To provide a simple and easy mechanism of querying information from the huge database (terabyte), depending upon the granularity of data requirements of customers.
Description
The company has a huge terabyte production database, which caters to different customers by providing information like products & specifications, suppliers' location, pricing details and logistic information. The extraction and formatting of data from the database, was a complex and monumental task, as the whole process consumed a lot of time and effort for every single query. Given the dynamic nature of the business, it was no surprise that the reporting and analysis team was bombarded with multiple queries requests each day.
Generic-Haskell provided a comprehensive solution by designing a data mart and generating multiple cubes catering to different industrial sectors. Based on the profile of industry sectors, products were grouped according to different product lines, groups, types & specifications and corresponding vendors in terms of geographical locations based on country, state & city. Drill-through reports were used to provide lowest granularity of data like delivery time, manufacturing lead-time, and customer payment schedules. Above all, the time taken for crunching the data into valuable information was drastically reduced from 6 hrs to 10 minutes.
Duration & Effort
Two Persons (one project lead and a developer) worked and completed the entire work in six weeks.
