More and more people are interested to try acupuncture Manhattan. True enough, the World Wide Web is brimming with success stories on how acupuncture therapy has helped improve their quality of life. Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese medicine that uses tiny sterile needles that are inserted in specific sites on your body. It is believed that health is achieved through the balance between two opposing forces known as the yin and yang. When there is an imbalance, illness will ensue.

TCM practitioners believe that your body houses invisible pathways called meridians. Along these meridians, energy called “qi” flows. This energy can be accessed through different points around 350 of them. Through the insertion of these needles, the energy flow will be restored and health is achieved. If you are planning to give acupuncture therapy a try we encourage you to learn about the do’s and don’ts after acupuncture so you can make the most of its benefits.

Do’s

Before your treatment, make sure you have had a decent meal. Don’t go to the clinic on an empty stomach.

Let your acupuncturist know if you consumed caffeine or alcohol or if you smoked or chewed tobacco.

Before you leave your house, check your clothing. We recommend you wear comfortable and losse fitting clothes.

Do arrive at the clinic at least 15 minutes before your scheduled treatment.

Also, make sure you urinate before your appointment.

Your acupuncturist will ask you to write pieces of information about yourself to know more about your condition and your health history. Be prepared.

We recommend you read as much information as you can about this therapy. Keep in mind that needles are to be inserted in your body.

Stay still and relaxed during the entire duration of the treatment.

If you ever plan to reschedule or cancel your appointment with your acupuncturist, please do it withing 24 hours or earlier.

Pay attention to how your body reacts and responds to the therapy. Take note of the changes in pain as well as your mood.

Don’ts

Do not multi-task during acupuncture therapy.

Once the needles have been inserted, you will be asked to stay calm and not move at all costs.

Do not go to the treatment in an empty stomach but don’t also go if you have just had a heavy meal.

Do not stress yourself emotionally, mentally and physically after the treatment.

Avoid any form of toxic substance on the day of your acupuncture therapy.

Do not smoke after acupuncture therapy as this will delay your body’s healing power.

Do not go for a swim or wet your body at least 60 minutes after acupuncture therapy.

These do’s and don’ts are designed to protect you before the treatment, during and after. For instance, why is bathing or swimming discouraged after acupuncture? It’s because the holes on your body caused by the needles can predispose you to infections if you swim. Another reason why your acupuncturist have these set of rules is so that he or she can get an accurate diagnosis. Like when you drink coffee before your treatment. Caffeine can cause your heart to beat faster than usual or the coffee can coat your tongue. When you follow these tips you will be able to reap the maximum benefits of acupuncture therapy.

Before you head out to get acupuncture therapy, make sure you familiarize yourself with these do’s and don’ts. Don’t worry because your acupuncturist will also discuss these with you during your initial consultation so you’ll know what to expect after the treatment.
